Benjamin Butler account books, 1799-1808.

Two account books (marked Vol. 1 and Vol. 3) detailing merchant and ship owner Butler's expenses as he traveled in the ships Susanna (1799) and Cotton Planter (1801-1806). In the Susanna, Butler traveled from New London, Connecticut, to Wilmington, North Carolina. From there he crossed the ocean to Cove of Cork (now Cobh), Ireland and Liverpool, England. He then returned to New London. The journey aboard the Cotton Planter was entirely within the United States. Starting from New London, Butler traveled to the Mississippi River and New Orleans. He continued to New York, and then returned to New London and Preston, Connecticut.
